Hello all,
I'm posting this to introduce myself. I have belonged to this board a couple of times in the past but was erased when I didn't spend a lot of time here. I am more of a lurcher on all the forums that I belong to, rarely posting an original post. So I hope I don't get kicked off again. I live in a small town in Ontario, Canada and started collecting Playmobil in 1979. MacDonald's had a promotion in our town inside Kids' Meals. We could get individual Playmobil figures, such as a Sheriff, Native American, Woman with a yellow umbrella and I forget what else. But the best part was being able to send away for large sets for a good price. A shell gas station, a couple driving in a white convertible and a Native American village. Of course they sent a catalogue (which I still have) and I was hooked. In the early 80s our local toy store started selling Playmobil and the rest is history. The first set I bought was the train and the farmhouse, which I notice is pictured in your 6th anniversary party. I have two girls so our collecting is based on mostly female sets such as the Victorian house and furniture, plus lots of animals, zoo, playgrounds, castle, etc. Since my girls were never allowed to play with the Playmobil on the floor I still have about 95% of all the small accessories.(My basement has flooded twice so I think I may have lost some stuff during the cleanup.) I built playboards which are 24" x 36" and each one holds one theme such as the Victorian House (5300 and we have two), another has the back yard of the house, a farm, a farmyard, a castle, hospital, school, the vacation house. Each board sits on a stand which can be wheeled around. If they wished to play with a different board it could be lifted off and stored by sliding it into one of two special cabinets I made to fit them. They hold about five boards each, depending on how high the scene was. These boards were all customized to enhance their play. I'll try to get some pictures posted one of these days.
My oldest daughter had two boys, 8 & 9 now, which changed everything. I had to scramble to make up playboards that they would be interested in. It was a good excuse to start buying Playmobil again. (Not that I ever really stopped). My youngest daughter now has a 2 year old girl who is already playing with our Playmobil. No, she didn't start with the 123. Her mother has taught her the proper way to play and is always present when she plays so she has yet to break anything. I have sent my daughter one of the big houses (as we call them) and one set of furniture and gradually some of the sets that are hers. Of course the small accessories are kept separate and safe.
So I guess that's enough for this post and I hope to be inspired by your forum.

Hello Gail,

It is nice to meet another Canadian as there are not many of us on this forum.

I loved your Playmobil history and thank you for sharing it with us. Enjoy playing
with your grandchildren.
